This auction is for a custom made, hand-built harmonica Microphone built by the seller, Douglas McGee, who is a custom microphone builder and a boutique fx pedal builder by night and a recording engineer by day.
The body is a lathe turned piece of figured curly Hawaiian Koa. Koa is a prized hardwood native to the islands of Hawaii. It is often used in high end guitars and is known for it's beautiful golden brown and reddish color and it's wild figure. This microphone was built from a piece containing tight Tiger-Stripped curl in the wood grain. The finish is a professional hand-rubbed finish. Take a look at the photos to appreciate the beauty of this microphone. This microphone was built because I felt that guitar players weren't the only ones who deserve to have beautiful piece of wood to play. This mic will make any guitarist drool.
The grill comes from an antique collectible turner 2 ham radio microphone and has been polished and restored to a pristine sheen.
The element is an Astatic pmc-127 ceramic microphone element. This element is known by serious harmonica players for it's silky smooth midrange tone. By design it compresses the signal slightly and can sound down and dirty if driven right.A classic Amphenol 5/8' Mic connector is used on this microphone for connecting to an amplification source. A cable will not be supplied with the microphone and must be purchased separately.
This microphone is shaped in a standard bullet style and cups nicely in the palm of your hand. It is also much lighter than a common all metal bullet microphone, making it a good choice for a serious harper
